Sachin is the Most Influential Indian Sportsman!
Tops Sports Illustrated List

The legendary Sachin Tendulkar has been named as the most influential person in Indian sports by Sports Illustrated magazine. Tendulkar came first in the Power List beating IPL Chairman Lalit Modi and Dr Vijay Mallya.

Tendulkar recently made headlines after he scored an unbeaten 200 against South Africa, becoming the first batsman in the history of One Dayers to do so. "I wanted to play cricket whole-heartedly for the country. I am living my dream and have played with two-three generations. I wanted to be a special member of the team and I have done it," Tendulkar said after topping the list, "It has taken many years for a batsman to get a double-hundred (in ODIs). I am still getting great feedback.

Tendulkar was born on 24 April 1973 in Mumbai. His father, Ramesh Tendulkar, a Marathi novelist, named Tendulkar after his favorite music director, Sachin Dev Burman. During his school days he attended the MRF Pace Foundation to train as a fast bowler, but Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee, suggested that Tendulkar focus on his batting instead. He has found a meteoric rise ever since and has become the highest run maker in the history of both Test and ODI cricket.

Union Agriculture Minister and President elect ICC Sharad Pawar (4th), Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (5th), BCCI president Shashank Manohar (6th), tennis ace Sania Mirza (50th on the list), Beijing Olympics gold medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra (41st), Churchill Brothers Team owner Churchill Alemao (48th), Dempo Sports Team owner Shrinivas Dempo (49) also made it to the Sports Illustrated list.
