Eurovision entered the new millenium with ever more countries participating in the contest. Eastern Europe was now heavily involved, and this was reflected in the voting which appeared to show Eastern Bloc nations voting for their neighbours, as well as politically influenced voting which shut out some superior songs from either winning or reaching the Top 5.
